AMDG Autumn Series Dressage May 2012

Another gorgeous Autumn day at Clevedon show grounds on Monument Road. The grounds were prepared beautifully as usual and the facilities at Clevedon are always well run and the staff friendly and helpful.

We were late getting our entries in this show so unforntunately had to take the only scratchings for the day which did not give the horses and riders much time to warm up in a busy atmosphere. As young horses this was a good experience for them as they had to settle quickly amongst a lot of distractions.

MANUKA MAGNI

As usual Manuka Magni referred to warm up in the “Big Persons” arena where there was even more action. We think he likes to show off a little… Magni has again grown behind so today he was a little unbalanced in his work but at this staage in his career it’s all about going forward and allowing the freedom of the shoulders to come through. He has a very soft mouth and is extremely flexible in his neck and body. His canter work is improving as he learns to balance himself.

Manuka Magni  Cecilia Karlsson  1.2   70.41%

MANUKA MEILEKKE

Manuka Meilekke was a little excited. Now that this was her second taste of competition she just wanted to get out there and be first up. She behaved very well in her test considering there was a small child in a tutu flapping her blue cardigan in the air amongst the audience.  She was so proud of herself and knew exactly where that judges car was.

Manuka Meilekke 1.2  Pippa Dearing  60.83%

MANUKA SOUTHERN CROSS

FIRST PLACE IN THE SERIES POINTS TABLE IN NOVICE

INTIMO DRESSAGE SERIES

Manuka Southern Cross again amazed us. His trot work was superb and his shoulder extension is especially exciting to watch today. He is really starting to use his body well and always tries his best. A super friendly horse who wants to please.

The day finished, just the same way it started – beautiful !

Autumn morning at Manuka Sport Horses

Early morning at Manuka Sport Horses Autumn 2012

Showfields Intimo Dressage Series April 22nd 2012

A spectacular day at Showfields, Hampton Downs. The weather was perfect and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly as always.

Results:

Manuka Magni: Prelim 1.1  58.18%, Prelim 1.3  65.38%

Manuka Meilekke: Prelim 1.1  62.27%, Prelim 1.3  60.00%

Manuka Southern Cross: Novice 2.2  62.05%, Novice 2.4  63.85%

Arriving at 9am with two young Moschinno horses Manuka Magni (Beema)and Manuka Meilekke (Indy) both just 5 years old, we settled in for a long day ahead.

Manuka Southern Cross arrived seperately with Pippa Dearing having spent the night with his favourite miniature horse friend “Tiny”. He soon got underway and was first up for the day in Novice 2.4 winning this class on a score of 63.85% and coming second in his 2.1 Novice test on 62.50%. This is Southerns first true dressage only test. Pippa also rides Southern at Horse Trials. We are thinking of changing his name to “One Cool Dude” as he was so calm and chilled out all day long.

Photo to come

Manuka Mielekke (Indy) was unbelievable. In her five years she has only ever been off the property twice and never to an event with lots of other horses, trucks and people milling around. she has never seen a dressage arena before. Pippa has been lightly schooling her after she was started late last year. Her first test Prelim 1.1 she scored 62.27% and in her Prelim 1.3 she scored 60.00%. When we arrived we had to move her to Pippa’s truck where she buddied up with another complete stranger. Her attitude was amazing and she enjoyed the atmosphere and behaved impeccably all day.

Cecilia Karlsson rode Manuka Magni for his first ever competition outing. He scored very well and finished 5th in Prelim 1.3 with 65.38%. In his Prelim 1.1 test he finished with a score of 58.18%. He loved the atmosphere and improved markedly between the two tests.  Judges comments on both tests were hugely encouraging. Now that Cecilia and Beema have had their first competition outing they will be back under the tutelage of Bill Noble for their ongoing development.  He will move up the grades as he matures and we have decided that this horse is not going to rushed and we will take our time with his development.

In summary as breeders we were very proud and felt privileged that we could take three horses out to an event and all do well. They all have a similar terrific attutude to work and competition atmosphere, which is a testament to their sire “Moschinno”. This demonstrates to us that the programme of education that we follow at Manuka Sport Horses is proof that it is important to allow young warmblood horses to mature in their own time. This in turn gives longevity to their competition careers.

Thanks to Sonja (photo) our visitor/rider from Germany who has been with us for a short time this year. The horses will miss you and especially “Sugar Pie”. Sonja came to us from Germany where she is a rider and is also finishing her masters degree in population studies at University in Hamburg. She is an asset to any business  - always reliable, trustworthy and great company. We wish you all the very best for the future and a safe trip home.

KIHIKIHI INTERNATIONAL HORSE TRIAL 6/7/8 April 2012

Another great start for Manuka Southern Cross at Kihikihi International Horse Trials with rider Pippa Dearing on board.

His dressage score was very good considering he was last to go and the crowds and atmosphere where very “distracting”, with a horse running loose around the dressage arena, while he was doing his test. He finished on a score of 65.65% placing him 12th in his first Pre Novice event.

Cross country for Southern is always very enjoyable. Nothing seems to get in his way. He was bold and forward as usual, finishing clear with no hesitations.

Showjumping on Sunday was another challenge for Southern as there were plenty more distractions with trade stands fluttering and noisy crowds but he finished in good form.

Overall the results in all 3 phases were very pleasing for us, as this was Southern’s first Pre-Novice horse trial over a big international level course, amongst some tough competition and professional riders.

Manuka Magni (Moschinno/Miranda)

This weekend will be the first time out for Manuka Magni at Auckland Manukau Dressage Show in Clevedon, Auckland. NZ.

Over the past few years it has been exciting yet frustrating, patiently waiting and watching for this gorgeous young dressage gelding to develop from a rather gangly unbalanced adolescent into a graceful swan.

He has the temperament and the conformation to take him all the way. He is smart, with a very trainable temperament like his Sire Moschinno.

Manuka Magni has a full sister Manuka Mielekke, of the same age, (by Embryo Transfer) She is also just starting her career and is heading for a competitive career as a showhunter/jumper.

These two horses are from the same breeding and indicate how versatile he is in leaving quality horses that have a presence and are being sort after by serious competitve riders.

 This horses is for sale.

Darkie 2011/2012 Season

Manuka Mention My Name (aka Darkie) has started the new season with a 1st & 2nd place at Elementary Level at AMDG, Clevedon. This has been followed by a 4th place at his first warm-up HT event at Te Rapa (Training) and then a 7th place in PN at Woodhill last weekend.

Cecilia & Darkie would have won this event but a self-confessed rider error at the final skinny led to them just missing the jump and having to return to it for a second attempt. Twenty penalties cost us first place but they were well under time to that point so Darkie is very fit; they were 2nd= after dressage and went clear in the show-jumping. More impressively is that Darkie & Cecilia just don’t practice their dressage – his natural movement just lets them get in there and do their stuff !

Cecilia and Darkie are currently working on Passage and he so loves to show off that he tries to do this everywhere at the moment, including in the middle of a test !

Back Online -

It’s taken a while – far too long – but we’re finally organised enough to make sure we get this column active, organised and up-to-date.  Two magnificent (full-blood Swedish) Moschinno x Madeira colts have gone to live in Warkworth and we have kept Mystle, a spectacular filly (also Moschinno x Madeira).  Beema and Indy have just completed their initial “starting” training and are now having a break until Early December.  Darkie and Mojo are back home with us and will be ridden by Cecelia and Rose.  Both completed 3-4 HT Training Level Events at the end of this just complete Eventing season – they both loved the X-country.  Cecelia and Darkie have had their first show-jumping lesson with John Cottle and will be back there this coming Sunday.  So much happening !  Back soon……………………..

Beema’s Birthday

Our first full Swedish warmblood progeny, Beema (alias Manuka Magni) is about to turn three !!  How times flies.  And, what a stunner he is turning out to be.  We shall be loading some photo’s of Beema and Indy (his full sister) in the gallery section very soon !

Welcome

Welcome to our boutique breeding stud Manuka Sport Horses

“Swedish Warmbloods have generally great health and tractability. The past 700 to 800 years of culling and selection for good cavalry mounts has provided the genetics for good feet, good teeth, robust digestive systems, and healthy skeletal development in the core of the breed. If temperament is inheritable, and many would argue that it is to some degree, then the SWB is very domesticated  – they bond with people, they pay attention, and they are usually highly trainable.  These are traits which people should expect in a horse which is going to live in their barn. (Emily Robertson, USA 2007.)
