Another great start for Manuka Southern Cross at Kihikihi International Horse Trials with rider Pippa Dearing on board.

His dressage score was very good considering he was last to go and the crowds and atmosphere where very “distracting”, with a horse running loose around the dressage arena, while he was doing his test. He finished on a score of 65.65% placing him 12th in his first Pre Novice event.

Cross country for Southern is always very enjoyable. Nothing seems to get in his way. He was bold and forward as usual, finishing clear with no hesitations.

Showjumping on Sunday was another challenge for Southern as there were plenty more distractions with trade stands fluttering and noisy crowds but he finished in good form.

Overall the results in all 3 phases were very pleasing for us, as this was Southern’s first Pre-Novice horse trial over a big international level course, amongst some tough competition and professional riders.
